Additional Information Purpose
Provides communications expertise to New Student Services (NSS) with broad responsibilities ranging from developing high-quality communication materials, managing electronic communications, supporting orientation programming and ensuring messaging and graphic design effectively communicate initiatives.
Manages NSS print, electronic and social media initiatives. Coordinates external and internal communications including messaging, publications, newsletters, website content, mobile application content, print collateral, photography, promotional plans, graphic design (print and electronic), press releases, video production and ad sales. Researches, writes, captures visual content and edits stories for multiple communications platforms. Creates reports, presentations and other communication documents. Assists in producing and editing web content, speeches, scripts, research, reports, presentations and other communication projects. Ensures all projects meet Division of Student Affairs and university guidelines (branding, style, institutional, etc.). Serves as liaison with UT Austin Creative Services to manage electronic and print projects ensuring projects meet budget criteria and deadlines. Develops tactical and strategic content road maps for new student orientation and other initiatives. Manages branded social media portals (Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, Instagram, etc.). Monitors questions/comments and engages in conversations on official social media portals and across the Internet, including but not limited to Class Facebook Groups or similar online communities. Coordinates with the NSS team for consistent messaging. Develops and manages image, graphic and content databases. Maintains archive/resource materials and documents. Hire, train and supervise full time staff to assist with communications in New Student Services. Supervises student work on projects including graphic design, photography, video production, proofreading/writing/editing, databases, archives and other initiatives. Serves as media contact. Coordinates with Division of Student Affairs and university communications teams on key issues. Drafts talking points and press releases as needed, schedules interviews, researches responses and follows up with media in a timely fashion. Coordinates with Division departments and colleges/schools/units as needed.
Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.
Other related functions as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications or related field. 3 to 5 years of professional multi-platform communications experience. Demonstrates superior communication skills including writing, editing, public speaking, project management. Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks at once, meet tight deadlines, work well under pressure. Proficiency in taking and editing photographs using professional equipment. Knowledge of video production, photography and basic graphic design techniques. Effective management of social media portals. Proficiency in using PC, Mac, Microsoft Office. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive communications with confidentiality and discretion. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Strong verbal, visual communications and organizational skills. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite. Prior experience supervising and working with college students in a professional capacity.

A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) under consideration for this position.
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
