The English Department offers a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate courses to meet the needs of students with a diversity of interests, and academic and professional backgrounds. By studying literature, rhetoric, composition, and critical theory, students in the Department of English acquire experience in inter-textual and cross-disciplinary inquiry represented by many cultures and historical periods. They learn critical approaches to texts and issues that enable them to interpret and compare positions, to read closely, critically, and with empathy, to conduct research, to weigh evidence, and to write with insight and expertise.

Position Summary

The Creative Writing program is looking for qualified adjunct instructors to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in Non-Fiction Writing. Courses include:

  • Wr 228 - Media Writing
  • Wr 328 - Media Editing
  • Wr 428 -Advanced Media Writing
  • Wr 456 Forms of Nonfiction
  • Wr 457 Personal Essay Writing
  • Wr 458 Magazine Writing
  • Wr 459 Memoir Writing
  • Wr 523 - MFA Core Workshop in Nonfiction
  • Wr 528 Advanced Media Writing
  • Wr 556 Forms of Nonfiction
  • Wr 557 Personal Essay Writing
  • Wr 558 Magazine Writing
  • Wr 559 Memoir Writing

    Minimum Qualifications

    WR 228/328/428/528 Masters or PhD in Nonfiction Writing or Journalism.

    All other courses MFA or PhD in Non-Fiction Writing

    For 500 level courses: MFA or PhD in Non-Fiction Writing. Applicants should have a distinguished record of publication, including at least one book of Nonfiction, as well as demonstrated excellence in teaching.

    Preferred Qualifications

    For 300 level courses: Minimum two quarters demonstrated successful teaching of college level media editing, and significant publications in the genre.

    For 400 level courses: : Minimum two terms demonstrated successful teaching of college level upper division writing or comparable, and significant publications in the genre.

    For 500 level courses: Experience teaching at the graduate level.
